AAC for Ayurvedic Practitioners Australia
AMA: THE SOURCE OF DISEASE:
Ama in Sanskrit, literally means “uncooked: or semi digested material. In the context of Ayurveda it means the product of improper digestion and metabolism.
Ayurveda regards all diseases as being caused by the weakening or suppression of digestive “fire” or the activities of enzymes responsible for digestion and metabolism. This weakened “fire” causes ama formation at different levels in the physiology.
Ama is described as a sticky, odourous substance arising out of incomplete digestion/metabolism and is regarded in Ayurveda as the basis of all disease in Ayurveda.)
